Putri Salju aka Snow White Cookies (The beautiful white ones that children fight over when Eid arrives)

Putri Salju aka Snow White Cookies

This time I will tell you about delicious cakes and served when Eid arrives in our country, namely Indonesia. It has become a tradition for us that we will serve cakes or dishes for guests who will come to our house during Eid. In general, Indonesian people like to serve ketupat opor ayam (a food consisting of rice cooked using a lot of water and molded and chicken cooked with special spices), satay, or rendang. Likewise with the cakes served, especially cookies such as putri salju, kaastengel, nastar, and others. Well, I will discuss a cake that is quite popular with children, namely putri salju cookies.

For some reason, when I was little I really liked the cookies. Maybe because of its beautiful shape (like covered in snow), its sweet taste, and there is a crunch in every bite of this cake, that's what made me crazy about this cake. Not only me, other children must also like it. This cake looks unique and attractive, encouraging others to immediately taste it. Its shape looks covered in snow, but wait a minute ... the white one is not snow! but donut sugar or mint sugar flour mixed with powdered milk ... hahaha ... it's very exciting when eating this cookies.

How about the taste? let me tell you. Actually, this cake has ingredients that are not much different from cookies in general, made from medium protein wheat flour, powdered sugar, margarine or butter, eggs, vanila flavour, baking powder, and additional chopped cashew nuts if you like (or can also be replaced with peanuts), and grated cheese to add a savory and delicious taste. With the composition that I mentioned, can you imagine the taste? of course delicious.

Actually, the main ingredients are three: wheat flour, margarine, and powdered sugar, that's enough to make putri salju cake. However, of course the taste can be said to be a standard taste. So many people choose additional ingredients to add to the deliciousness of the cake. This cake can be said to be a cake that has a sweet, crunchy taste because this cake is a type of cookie, besides it has a savory taste from margarine or butter, grated cheese, and cashew nuts or peanuts. I'm sure this cake has many fans, especially those of you who like the taste of sweet food and unique shapes. This cake can be your friend when drinking tea in the afternoon after activities or gathering with your beloved family.

A question might come to your mind. Is this cake originally from Indonesia? I don't think so. When I researched, this cake probably came from the influence of cookies from Europe. Given that the composition of this cake has ingredients similar to European cookies in general. This cookie is almost similar to cookies from Austria, namely VanilleKipferl. This cookie has several similarities, namely the shape of a crescent moon (in general), and sprinkled with white powdered sugar. It could be that this cookie was brought by European residents who came to Indonesia and introduced it to the Indonesian people (either directly or indirectly). Over time, this cookie has become familiar to the Indonesian people, especially when celebrating Eid al-Fitr.
