This food is no less unique. Of course, most Indonesians have eaten salted eggs. What are salted eggs? Salted eggs are eggs that are salted by adding a large amount of salt as a preservation.

First, I will briefly tell you the history of the discovery of salted eggs. Salted eggs are said to have been prepared by a Chinese couple in Indonesia named In Tjiauw Seng and Tan Polan Nio as a ritual of worship to the God of the Earth. Usually, the eggs that are salted are duck eggs. Because of the abundant supply of duck eggs, they started selling them in the 1950s. Salted eggs can be said to be durable and last longer than eggs in general. Especially if used as food supplies when traveling far.

The making is quite simple, by choosing healthy and good eggs (by soaking them in water, if the eggs sink to the bottom, it indicates that the eggs are good to be processed into salted eggs). After that, the eggs are cleaned and soaked in salt water for 2-3 weeks. In addition to these methods, there are also those who use bricks or rice husk ash and coat them with salt that will cover the entire surface of the salted egg. Quite simple, right?

When the manufacturing process is complete, the eggs can be cooked according to taste. In general, Indonesian people like boiling for salted eggs. It turns out that salted eggs have benefits, besides being an alternative source of protein from meat. Salted eggs have a higher calcium content compared to ordinary duck eggs. Most likely, this is formed from the union of salt minerals with duck eggs. In addition, the fat content is less than normal duck eggs.

Then what about salted egg chips? This is what makes me curious. As far as I know, there is no such thing as salted egg chips. Most likely, because of the abundance of salted eggs in a place, they process them into something unique but still useful. One of them is salted egg chips.

If you look at it, the shape is like the inside of a salted egg. White with egg yolk in the middle. Of course, this shape is like chips in general, namely flat. I started trying it. The smell is not too pungent like salted eggs in general. A little smell of cooking oil because of course it is processed by frying. I started to find the difference. These chips are not originally made from salted eggs that are thinly sliced ​​then dried and fried. But the white part, I think is mixed with flour (most likely starch). Maybe the addition of starch is intended to add a "crunchy" sensation when chewing this food. A fairly unique and interesting snack. Can be used as a light snack in the afternoon while accompanied by a cup of warm tea.
