Sweet Snack Called Bareh Randang, But Does It Taste Different from Rendang?

Bareh Randang
We must have known rendang, a typical West Sumatran food that is famous worldwide. However, if you have ever heard the name bareh randang, is this food the same as randang/rendang in general? We know that rendang comes from beef that has been processed with other special spices such as coconut milk, turmeric, shallots, garlic, and many other spices. In addition to beef, rendang can also be processed from chicken, shellfish, liver, and even eggs. However, it is different with rendang rice, don't think that rice is processed into rendang. That is a wrong perception, it turns out that this rendang rice is a sweet snack without the frills of the typical rendang spices that we know.

What else is this food? Yutuk, the Hippoidea

Yutuk
This time I will review unique foods that come from the sea. Yesterday, I reviewed sea cucumber crackers. This time I will tell you about my experience with the hippoidea or what is called yutuk (local language).

At first glance it looks like a flea. It has an oval body, a fairly hard shell and many legs. Maybe you think this is not food, it is poisonous. However, some people in coastal areas may have tasted this marine animal. This is my first time eating it myself. Even though I myself have lived in coastal areas for quite a long time, I have never eaten it at all. Surprisingly, I also just learned about the shape of this sea animal.

Fried Grasshoppers, a crispy sensation that makes you addicted

Fried Grasshoppers, a crispy sensation that makes you addicted
Is this considered extreme food? It could be, especially for those who are not used to eating grasshoppers. However, in an area in Indonesia, this food is a source of protein that replaces chicken or beef. In the Gunung Kidul area (Yogyakarta) this food is common, as well as in several other small areas in Central Java Province. Isn't it disgusting to eat this grasshopper? If you are not used to it, of course it is. However, if you are used to it, of course not. It depends on our respective understandings.

Salted Egg Chips. How does it taste?

Salted Egg Chips
This food is no less unique. Of course, most Indonesians have eaten salted eggs. What are salted eggs? Salted eggs are eggs that are salted by adding a large amount of salt as a preservation.

First, I will briefly tell you the history of the discovery of salted eggs. Salted eggs are said to have been prepared by a Chinese couple in Indonesia named In Tjiauw Seng and Tan Polan Nio as a ritual of worship to the God of the Earth. Usually, the eggs that are salted are duck eggs. Because of the abundant supply of duck eggs, they started selling them in the 1950s. Salted eggs can be said to be durable and last longer than eggs in general. Especially if used as food supplies when traveling far.

Indonesian Military Food, does it taste good or…?

The Indonesian Meal, Ready-To-Eat (MRE)
When I was looking at products on e-commerce, I accidentally saw sales of Indonesian military food  or Meal, Ready-To-Eat (MRE) ration products. The shape is wrapped in a foil container, with medium size. There are many choices of flavors, there is Balinese spiced rice, rendang, oyster sauce, and various other unique flavors which I think are quite appetizing.
